There are so many fun things you can do once the leaves start falling from the trees! Here are a few art project ideas using fall leaves:

Child making art with leaves

You will Need:

    • A variety of leaves, in various colors & sizes
    • White paper or cardboard
    • Crayons or markers
    • Pencil
    • Glue or glue stick
    • Optional: Googly eyes, pipe cleaners, feathers, or other decorative items

Leaf Rubbings

    • Prepare your workspace: Place a white piece of paper on a flat surface.
    • Choose a leaf: Select a leaf you like.
    • Place the leaf: Lay the leaf face down on the paper.
    • Rub with crayon: Hold a crayon sideways and rub it firmly over the leaf. The raised veins and texture of the leaf will create a beautiful imprint on the paper.
    • Experiment: Try different colors and pressure to see how it affects the rubbing.
    • Create a masterpiece: Combine multiple leaf rubbings to create a colorful and unique piece of art. You can arrange them in patterns, create animals, or simply enjoy the abstract beauty.

Leaf People or Animals

    • Arrange and glue: Lay out the leaves on the paper to create the body of a person, or an animal of your choosing. Use larger leaves for the body and smaller ones for arms, legs, and head. Create imaginative animals using leaves as body parts, such as a butterfly with leaf wings or a frog with leaf feet. Glue the leaves in place.
    • Add details: Use markers or crayons to draw faces, clothes, and accessories on your leaf people. Use the optional materials to add extra flair to your leaf creatures. Googly eyes can become eyes, pipe cleaners can become hair, and feathers can become hats or wings.

More Leaf Art Projects for Kids:

    • Leaf Crowns: Glue leaves to a band of paper to create a magical Fall crown.
    • Leaf Bookmarks: Decorate bookmarks with pressed leaves.
    • Leaf Collages: Collect a variety of leaves and other natural materials to create colorful collages.
    • Leaf Bowls: Form a bowl shape with clay and press leaves into it for a unique texture.
    • Leaf Printing: Gather different shaped leaves. Apply paint to one side of the leaf. Press the painted side onto paper to create a leaf print. Experiment with different colors and overlapping prints.
